The Therapeutic Power of Writing Fiction
I recently stumbled across the book;
Rewrite Your Life - Discover Your Truth Through the Healing Power of Fiction
Author Jessica Lourey's book is a guide to writing fiction using a process of harvesting your own emotions and experiences which can then be transformed into the building blocks of a writing project such as a fiction novel.
Jessica states that "Journal entries wouldn't have worked for me. I couldn't survive reliving the pain. I needed to convert, package and ship it off. Many of us need to reprocess out garbage, but can't bear the idea of writing a memoir."
Jessica writes about The Therapeutic Benefits of Writing a Novel in this interview and expands further in her Ted Talk Use fiction to rewrite your life
I find the ideas in this book fascinating.
Creative writing can help create key benefits for personal well-being but it is not often thought of in this way.
Framing the habit of writing fiction as part of a practice of self-care and emotional health can help unlock unique benefits and add an extra emotional depth to our own stories.
